“Don Orione” Beneficence Charity Society completes the ,,Joint Challenge and Joint Cooperation for the Management of Cross-Border Natural Heritage” project
Through this project, funded by Interreg V-A Romania-Hungary 2014 – 2020 Programme, “Don Orione” Beneficence Charity Society, in collaboration with its project partners, Körös-Maros National Park in Békés County and of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Békés County, Hungary, aimed to improve the cross-border collaboration between Romania and Hungary in the field of management and promotion of the natural heritage of the cross-border area.
The project started on March 1, 2018 and will be officially completed on July 31, 2020. The total budget of the project was 1,117,788.09 Euro (950.119,87 Euro ERDF Co-financing), of which 400,100 Euros go to the “Don Orione” Beneficence Charity Society, 630,000 Euros go to the Körös-Maros National Park in Békés County, and 87,688.09 Euros go to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Békés County.
Regarding the activities of the ,,Joint Challenge and Joint Cooperation for the Management of Cross-Border Natural Heritage” project, carried out on the Romanian side of the border, we would like to mention the following:
1. The Tourist Refuge was developed in Zece Hotare village, Șuncuiuș commune – Bohor county. A space was built and equipped for tourists, who want to stop and admire the natural beauties while benefiting from some facilities such as access to electricity, utilities, first aid services, tourist information spaces, etc. This tourist shelter has an Observer for admire the landscape from above. The shelter is accessible to people with motor disabilities, the Observer being equipped with an elevator.
2. We organized two thematic routes for educational purposes in these areas, and we participated in cleaning-up activities of a large area of Natura 2000 land (about 120 ha.) to restore the beauty it deserves.
3. We organized five educational programs for children and young people (200 participants) on biodiversity and nature protection, aiming, in the long term, to form a healthy attitude regarding the protection of natural heritage. We set out to pass on to young people the love for nature through multiple activities, such as: school in nature, courses on nature, the establishment of a mini zoo and botanical garden.

The Interreg V-A Romania-Hungary program is intended to finance joint Romanian-Hungarian projects, which address identified needs on both sides of the border and which require a common approach, as well as innovative solutions, thus contributing to the sustainable development of the eligible area. The program is a continuation of the cross-border cooperation programs implemented in the region and has a total budget of approximately 232 million euros, of which 189 million euros represents the non-reimbursable funding from the European Regional Development Fund. The eligible area of the program includes Arad, Bihor, Satu Mare and Timiş counties on the Romanian side of the border and Békés, Csongrád, Hajdú-Bihar and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg counties, on the Hungarian side.
